How to Keep Your LAND District Battery Healthy This Winter
As the colder months roll in, every rider knows that winter brings its own kind of challenge. Roads get slick, rides get shorter, and temperatures drop. This doesn’t mean your District shouldn’t always be ready when the urge to ride hits. The good news is that keeping your bike’s Core battery in top shape through the winter is simple, and a little care now will pay off with better performance and longer life when spring returns.
At LAND, we build our bikes to handle the real world, Cleveland winters included. Lithium-ion batteries perform best when they’re treated right. Here’s how to keep your Core healthy all season long.
1. Store Your Battery Indoors Whenever Possible
Cold garages and sheds can quickly sap a battery’s performance. If you’re not riding, bring the Core indoors and store it in a dry space at room temperature. Think of it like any other high-performance piece of gear. It’ll last longer when kept away from freezing temps and moisture.
2. Avoid Charging in Freezing Temperatures
Never charge your Core battery if it’s below 32°F (0°C). Charging a cold battery can affect its long-term health and capacity. Instead, allow it to warm up to room temperature before plugging in. A short wait makes a big difference in battery longevity.
3. Keep Your Battery Around 50–70% if You’re Not Riding
If your District will sit for more than a week or two, aim to keep the battery between half and two-thirds charged. This is the sweet spot for long-term storage. Full charges or deep drains aren’t ideal when the bike is idle. You don’t need to top it off every day; a quick check every few weeks is plenty.
4. Don’t Leave the Battery on the Bike Outside
Your Core is built tough, but prolonged exposure to cold can reduce both range and performance. If your District lives outdoors, take the battery out and store it indoors. It’s an easy habit that pays off in smoother rides and stronger range later.
5. Warm the Battery Before You Ride
If your Core has been sitting somewhere cold, let it sit at room temperature for a bit before heading out. A gentle warm-up helps the chemistry inside the cells perform at its best, giving you more torque, better throttle response, and the full LAND experience.
6. Bonus Tip: Give Your Bike a Winter Checkup
Winter is the perfect time to inspect cables, tires, brakes, and connectors. A little preventative care goes a long way. Check for debris or corrosion around connection points, and make sure your charger port cover is clean and sealed. If you’re unsure, reach out. We can walk you through a quick DIY inspection or connect you with a nearby dealer for a tune-up.
Ride Safe, Stay Charged
Taking a few simple steps now keeps your Core battery protected and your District ready for whatever’s next, from early spring commutes to those spontaneous weekend rides when the sun peeks out again.
